Shaun Sawyer began his police career in 1986, serving as a uniformed officer in Central London. He progressed within Inspector and Chief Inspector roles, serving within Specialist Operations including Covert Policing and Counter Terrorism.
Following a period of leading the Metropolitan Police Anti-Corruption Command in 2005 he was appointed to Chief Officer rank as Commander Covert Policing and Intelligence. From that period through to 2009 he also performed roles as the lead for Public Protection, focussing on gang violence, and Commander for the Metropolitan Police Counter Terrorist Command.
In 2010 he was Syndicate Director at the Police Staff College, Bramshill, developing senior future leaders before moving to Devon where he took the post of Deputy Chief Constable for the Force. He was appointed Chief Constable in 2013.
His current national portfolios include heading the national initiative for police cadets and leading on modern slavery, organised immigration crime and migration related matters.
His ‘spare’ time is spent cycling, supporting charity events and enjoying activities with his 15 year old son.
